Have you ever come across a product, or a piece of furniture inspired by prevailing economic condition? Spread 10 y by Antonio Maria Privitera is a handcrafted wooden magazine rack designed to combine the “news” with the now “(in)famous” graph. It also maps the transition between the Silvio Berlusconi government and that of Mario Monti. The Spread 10 y magazine rack is handmade by Zana Lab and designed by Antonio Maria Privitera @ Studio Inesistente. Finally we think that the Spread 10 y magazine rack  is not just a magazine rack it’s a statement !

Redesdale Residence was designed by Space International and is located in Los Angeles, California. The home was integrated in a scenic landscape: “perched high on a ridge-line with sweeping views of the Silverlake reservoirs this custom residence operates as a barrier from the street-side activity while opening up the interior spaces to the panorama beyond. A tiered split level section allows each of the primary areas: the eating, living and sleeping spaces, to have autonomy from one another while giving each a specific connection to the adjacent outdoor spaces and views“. With an exterior blending wood, concrete and glass, the Redesdale home falls in a category that we often see here on Freshome, that of modern and minimalist residences, embraced by the ones looking for a comfortable and opulent way of living. The idea for these minimalist Tea Houses was triggered by the need of a nature retreat, located not far from a family home in Silicon Valley, California, USA. The creative team at Swatt Miers Architects was in charge with transforming a vision into reality, designing the three tea houses as perfect observation spots. According to the official description provided by the project developers, each new tea house was created as a “transparent steel and glass pavilion, hovering like a lantern over the natural landscape. Cast-in-place concrete core elements anchor the pavilions, supporting steel channel rim joists, which cantilever beyond the cores to support the floor and roof planes. With its minimal footprint, the design treads lightly on the land, minimizing grading and preserving the delicate root systems of the native oaks“. How would you comment on the design and function of these nature-embedded home additions?

Malibu, California, is home to an interesting residential project the PAS House/ Skateboard House. As you might guess from the name and photos, this unique space was designed to be both a modern home and a collection of skateboard-ready surfaces both indoor and outdoor. Built for Pierre Andre Senizergues (PAS), a former World champion, Pro Skater and owner of a well-known skateboard footwear and apparel company, the Skateboard House encompasses all the owner’s interests. Created by skateboarder and designer Gil Lebon Delapointe and Los Angeles-based architect Francois Perrin, this customized home will be placed at the top of the Malibu hills, so it’s a mixture of views over the Pacific and innovative interior design. Separated into three programs- one containing the living, dining and kitchen areas, another one sheltering the bedroom and bathroom and the third one dedicated entirely to skating, the house will feature skate-able areas throughout. Integrated in a curved wall, the kitchen on one side and the sitting area on the other shape a hybrid between living, working and having fun. This dynamic home complements the owner’s lifestyle in stead of changing it. How would your house look like depending on your hobbies?

American designer Bec Brittain is the mastermind behind the SHY light, a geometric light fitting that has a highly adaptable shape. Brittain, who studied industrial design at Parsons, earned a BA in philosophy from New York University, before gaining an architecture degree from The Architectural Association in London, chose the name of the light by combining her grandmother’s initials.

In this post we would like to present the Bravo Chair, a project that was especially developed to “allow for that much needed mid study session nap“. According to Design Milk, the creator, Matte Nyberg, is currently studying to receive a Masters of Industrial Design at Pratt Institute. With an appearance that is both aesthetic and functional, the chair allows one the possibility to take a break while reading or doing office work. Simply lean your head on the soft red pillow and let your mind relax. We appreciate the design and originality of this project and believe it would be a great addition in a bookstore or public library. The only thing missing is a place to rest your feet. Looking at Maximo Riera‘s latest work the Elephant Chair we can’t help but wonder how a sculptural piece like this one can ever be ignored. It’s massive elephant head and body shares the feeling of surrendering to higher powers while drawing inspiration from one of the oldest living civilization of Earth. Adding to his existing three animal pieces the Walrus Chair, the Rhino Chair and the Octopus Chair- this fourth piece is an ode to the world’s largest animal. Surprising exceptional details in yet another fabulous piece of furniture part of his now famous Animal Collection, the Spanish designer insisted that each project be biologically accurate to create a stunning first impression that lasts. Besides being inspired by the widely worshiped Indian deity Ganesha in all it’s shape, this imposing chair also features Indian patterns carved into the front legs these were designed after original hand-made pieces of furniture found in India. An inspired collaboration between famous singer Lenny Kravitz and Italian tile manufacturer LEA Ceramiche led to the creation of a fantastic collection of tiles. Meaning “drop” in Italian, the Goccia Three Dimensional Tile Collection imitates the features of moving water, mirroring the light and capturing shadows in a merger of quality material and imagination. Lenny Kravitz extended his creativity to a new media, helping create a stylized version of water in black and white. You might know that back in 2003, the famous singer set up a design studio that transform’s Lenny’s “eclectic global lifestyle into innovative and dynamic design solutions.” Kravitz Design Inc. Working with the LEA Ceramiche team resulted in a fabulous set of matte and glossy textures that can be used to beautify either residential or commercial spaces. For sure, Lenny Kravitz’s creativity has found another inspiring outlet expressed in this challenging project.
